American customs you like/dislike
From Halloween to Thanksgiving, from Easter to Christmas it's undeniable that American culture has planted its roots in today's western pop culture, even in Europe we have adopted some of their festivities like the previously mentioned Halloween due to the weight of American media in daily life.
However, although in Europe some of these celebrations have also been adopted we can't waste our own festivities, since in the last decades The All Saint's Day has been quite forgotten mostly by newer generations because of all the activities Halloween brings that are much more appealing to a younger audience than a traditional Christian celebration. Media also takes advantage of this, since the "spooky" connotation of these days helps it provide TV specials and a good marketing punch for scary films, we can't forget that, after Christmas, Halloween is the best celebrations for businesses around the world.
Some of these celebrations have also been quite spread thanks to American media; despite all the consumist connotations it now holds Christmas still reigns as the most famous celebration around the world and it always helps keep families united again be it the reason it can be.
Even if we don't appreciate our customs as much as we used to in favour of foreign ones it's always good to learn more about other western culture and how they have changed our way of undertanding festivities, but we must also preserve the common knowledge of our own activities so that these aren't forgotten and they can also undertand our traditions and customs.
